In less than 24 hours the 2010 World Cup starts!! In celebration I've decided to post my first day picks (Mexico v. South Africa & France v. Uruguay). In my real bracket I've got Mexico as the first qualifier in group A and France as the second. This could potentially set up a juicy encounter between France and Argentina in the second round. Anyways, on to the picks:

Mexico 1 V. SA 2 (Gotta give the host some love... Also imagine having to listen to tens of thousands of vuvuzelas for 90 minutes. No thanks)
ReplyDeleteFrance 3 V. Uruguay 1 (France has too much talent not to get out of the group, even though Domenech is clearly doing everything he can to mess it up, ie not taking Benzema or Nasri. Also, the Uruguay goal comes from Forlan)
It's a shame that we live in the past Matt, and have to wake up at the crack of dawn to watch.
Mexico 1 v. S. Africa 1: Hosts pull out a tie on sheer bravado despite mexican technical domination.
ReplyDeleteUruguay 3-1: Forlan and Luis Suarez run riot on an old, inconsistent and poorly coached french squad. Evra will be solid, but appointing him captain so close to the tournament will not help stabilize a dysfunctional team and Gallas is not match-fit. Furthermore, a quote from the recent Metro magazine: "Ribery will look for his play to silent accusations about an under-aged prostitution scandal." No thank you.
France will not advance out of this interesting group.
